Recent Additions: Good Times

Hi all. Managed to order a DVD of Sonny and Cher's Good Times from Amazon.com, here 's a screencap from the Ride On dance hall sequence (albeit with a bit of photoshop retouching to make the image clearer):

Watching this again after all these years, I'm frankly amazed at what an excellent musical number this scene really was. The costumes and choreography were absolutely spot on for the time (1966); the whole segment was, in fact, a fitting tribute to the old school westerns of the previous decade (particularly the musical version of Destry). Let me know if I should post more from the scene.

Cheers, Perry.

A few images added

I've added four images in History I, Movies, Miscellaneous and Illustrations.  Barbebleu

Hiya all,

First I have to thank Monbeard and Barbebleu for your assistance in how to download video's from Youtube.

The video, when downloaded  is much smaller than the one's on the Youtube and windows media will not accept it on their site. Am I doing anything wrong !!!

One last point, after downloading Youtube I also downloaded the FLV player as you suggested the file is like a white background with the FLV as the icon

With your great aptitude for computers I would be greatfull for your assistance

Secrets of a Windmill Girl

Anyone here seen the 1966 'backstage thriller'  Secrets of a Windmill Girl ? According to the synopsis at IMDB, it's actually set in the famous soho nightclub and features a number of striptease scenes - although none of the reviews I read mentioned whether it contains a cancan sequence.

Another film that might offer some possibilities is Mrs Henderson Presents (2005), starring Dame Judy Dench and Bob Hoskins. Set in London during the war, the main storyline follows the struggle to keep the Windmill open during the blitz, and  apparently contains some 'exotic' numbers (though again, I couldn't find any cancan references in the descriptions).

Cheers, Perry.

Two Ronnie Christmas Special

Does anyone recall which year the Two Ronnies Christmas special featured the cancan?

Cheers, Perry.

Listen to the Expert

Our member and resident expert on the cancan, David Price, was tapped to provide commentary on the origins of the dance on the BBC Radio 4 show, "Questions, Questions". The segment is available on the BBC Radio 4 website through approximately 3:00 p.m. British time, Thursday, June 14.

David acquited himself very well, and I think you'd enjoy the clip even though David said they had done some ceative editing of his remarks.

You can listen to David at:

www.bbc.co.uk/radio4

At the site, click on the A-Z list at the top left and then scan the list for "Questions, Questions" and click on "Listen" underneath the listing. You might need Real Player or something else that plays real media format files.

A big round of applause for our celebrity!

Additions: Movies

Four screencaps from MGM's How the West was Won (1962) added to the Movies album, featuring some nice shots of Debbie Reynold's backstage scene.

---

---

I'm thinking of ordering the DVD from Amazon; let me know if you think the quasi-cancan scene would make a worthwhile addition to the album.

Cheers, Perrry.

Additions: Benny Hill

Eight new pics added to the Benny Hill album, illustrating the cancan gag from the "Transistor Radio" sketch. My apologies for the poor quality of the screencaps; did my best to clean the images up in photoshop.

---

---

Hope to add the "Nurses" sketch and some more Benito's screenshots over the next couple of weeks. Cheers, Perry.

Port Aventura

I know that this is really unseasonable but, whilst trawling through YouTube the other evening, I came across a reasonably complete video of the Christmas Cancan show at Port Aventura.  The final two minutes show the cancan segment and is really worth looking at.  Just type "Christmas Cancan" into the search box in YouTube and (at tonight's check) it is the third option.
