Cabaret Rouge - In Other Cancan Costumes

The Cabaret Rouge dancers don't confine themselves to the familar red and black cancan costumes featured in the prior post.  Above are some variations they use.

"Can-Can"

The Paper Mill Playhouse is promoting its upcoming performance of "Can-Can" and its hoped-for Broadway revival.  The show starts Oct. 1 and runs through Oct. 26 at their theater in New Jersey.  It stars Kate Baldwin as La Mome Pistache.  Here are some rehearsal photos and a rehearsal video.  The dancing looks promising, but the costumes will make or break it.  There is hope in that direction, as can be seen in the post here on September 11.

It may too much to hope for, but perhaps we'll be lucky enough to see a dress rehearsal video of them too.

An interesting sidelight is that they have persuaded 95 year old Lilo, the star of the 1953 original Broadway production, to lend her prestige to the current show.

Here she is with Kate Baldwin.

Here are a couple of photos of Lilo from the 1953 show:

Les Sublimes Cabaret

These dancers are from Les Sublimes Cabaret of Lyon, France.  Very nice costumes. The red panties and black stockings really stand out against the predominantly white backdrop of the petticoats.

The first photo above is from Le Progress online magazine and shows Manon of Les Sublimes in a "frenzied cancan" at a fete at la Chassieu ranch in Lyon.  The site:

Klicksis

Long-time members of our various cancan groups will remember Klicksis, the Berlin-based dance troupe, from this old photo:

It appears they have dusted off their cancan and are presenting it again this September at Old Texas Town, as indicated at their Facebook site.  Here are some more recent photos and a couple of posters:
