French Postcards

The original French postcards?  Here are five of these classic Belle Epoque postcards from the Moulin Rouge, showing the latest in 1890's retouching techniques.  These images have been available a long time, but this was a chance to gather them together in one place.  The first one has always been my favorite of the bunch.  I'm not sure if this is the entire original set or not, but these at least are offered on EBay by Chambre Close at these auctions, where you can see (and buy) the original uncropped versions:

Melodien aus Die lustige Witwe 1993

A German television special featuring Johannes Heesters and Edda Moser and some nicely clad dancers.  Unfortunately, the quality is only 360p.

See the original at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBRsi8navG8
(Cancan begins in earnest about 10:55)

The dancers may be from the Fernsehballett.  See these more extensive videos of those dancers in similar costumes:

Heesters, who performed in a variety of operetta films, was a controversial figure having many associations with Nazis during their regime.  His past didn't seem to affect his post-war career, and he lived to be 108. His biography:

From the Archives

I liked this video when it was posted years ago and still do.  It stands up pretty well, even though cameras and video quality are much better now.

It was an amateur performance, perhaps at a high school, but, unusually for that kind of show, the dancers wore stockings and garter belts.
