I don't currently see an available video of the second cancan.

There are several film versions of this, including a nice one starring Marujita Diaz that will be fondly remembered for its two cancans:

La Casta Susana/La Chaste Suzanne - the First Cancan

A copy of the first cancan from la Casta Susana/La Chaste Suzanne has been posted at You Tube courtesy of SpanishBizarro3.  The original is at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a17WkI7h3YU

There is a second cancan in different costumes that is just as good.  Here's hoping it will be posted also.

This is a hard to find Spanish-French film and stars Marujita Diaz, the dancer in the green costume.

Here is a link to a second cancan film, Abuelita Charleston (Granny Charleston) featuring Ms. Diaz.  I expected Esther Williams to make an appearance:

La Casta Susana/La Chaste Suzanne - the Second Cancan

A copy of the second cancan from La Casta Susana/La Chaste Suzanne has been now also been posted at You Tube.  Many thanks to SpanishBizarro3 for making the posting.  The original is at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUm53TJgj5U

This is a hard to find Spanish-French film and stars Marujita Diaz, the dancer wearing a lavender costume this time.

Some Rarities

Here are links to several classic era rarities that have become available recently:

La Casta Susana

(Argentina 1944)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIXJOKcvF6w (starts about 28.30, although there is a music hall scene earlier that doen't qualify as a cancan)

This is a bad print, but it does show what promise lies ahead if a good copy could be located. The cancan scene is sort of a smash-up between a Busby Berkeley cast-of-hundreds number and a Marx Brothers comedy. If anyone knows how to get a DVD of this (or even a VHS tape), please post the information.

There is also a French/Spanish 1963 remake of this film that contains two very nice cancan scenes. I haven't seen a posting of it on You Tube yet though.

The 1944 cancan scene is excerpted on Cancan Classics:

Zaza

(US 1938)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24qjvOdCeQQ (toward the end of part 1)

The cancan here is pretty minimal, but it does feature Claudette Colbert flipping her skirts in the film from which the iconic 1938 Look magazine cover was taken. Here's a link to that image in case you are not familiar with it:

http://www.pettipond.com/laterimages/images_m/look112238.jpg

I have never seen this shown on either broadcast TV or cable. The print is not that sharp, but it's the only game in town right now. Perhaps someday, this will be available on DVD.

Fernsehunterhaltung Silvester

(Germany 1966)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lYrIE2Iobc

I include this in this posting because non-German members will probably never see it otherwise, and it is a nice sharp print for a televison program from the mid-Sixties that features classic costuming (tights excepted).

An excerpted version can also be seen at Cancan Classics:
