La Vie Parisienne - Toulouse - 1994 - Part 1 - Intro, Credits and Cancan

Gallia est omnis divisa in partes tres

A re-staging for France 3 of the wonderful over-the-top Geneva performance of  La Vie Parisienne. This one hails from Toulouse and dates from 1994.  It features the Orchestre National du Capitole du Toulouse and the Choeur et Ballet du Capitole.

This is part 1 - with the Introduction, Credits and a great cancan.

This copy is several generations removed from the original, but the quality isn't too bad.

There are some photos from yet another performance using this staging and costumes that can be seen at:

This is part 2 - the arrival of the Brazilian at the railroad station.  It gives the flavor of the original, but isn't quite as nice.

La Vie Parisienne - l'Opéra-Théâtre de Metz-Métropole

From a 2015 production of La Vie Parisienne by l'Opéra-Théâtre de Metz-Métropole.

The costumes are similar to the all-time great performance of the operetta in Geneva, many years ago now. (A low-res excerpt, minus the crucial railroad station scene, is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmD2GELg_V8)

Annie Cordy - La Vie Parisienne

A nice bloomered version of the cancan from La Vie Parisienne featuring Belgian/French star Annie Cordy.  This replaces an earlier posting from which the video has disappeared.

La Vie Parisienne

Highlights from a television production of La Vie Parisienne, probably French.  The video is a little fuzzy, but very nice nonetheless.  The troupe is not named.

La Vie Parisienne as Photographed by Daniel Cande

Daniel Cande photographed three versions of "La Vie Parisienne" over the years - in 1981, 1985 and 1990.  The photos are housed in the Bibliothèque nationale de France collection.  The top four photos are from the 1990 production, and the bottom photo is from the 1985 production.  I have cropped them to emphasize the dancers.

Costume Design Drawings for La Vie Parisienne 1980

The top drawing could easily become one of my favorite drawings of the cancan.   These are costume drawings for a 1980 production of "La Vie Parisienne" staged by Théâtre du Châtelet.

They are from the collection of the Bibliothèque nationale de France.  I am not sure of the artist's name, but it may be Valeri.   These are included in a collection of photos of the production taken by Daniel Cande.

The originals, together with a number of other photos of the same drawings with differing amounts of brightness and contrast, may be viewed at:
