Thanks dix, but she is wearing bloomera!!
Something about bloomers, not going to get the appropriate response!!
My thoughts exactly Whats wrong with these women. This is not dancing They look like their using their skirts in a push pull kind of routine as if their milk maids from the north country pulling cow udders. They have no rythmn. This bad crippled gallop, that seems to pass as a cancan. God. Why dont they use real dancers, who understand that the real rituelle of the cancan, is more than a gallumophing atround a stage, coyly flipping their dresses, to show off bloomers that are absolutely embarassing. Burlesque has moved on from this trite. Obviously the film prod thought this was what it was like in the thirties. Def not. They should have checked out Le Tabarin, and the other parisienne boites of the time. Or the windmill for that matter. It was racey and lacey ! (Mrs Henderson presents got it right ! Yours in the tease Jimmy Vee
Valid points all, James, but I think you need to realize the context.
The scene takes place during a village "amateur night" event. The dancers are actually sisters-in-law. The one with the bloomers (Ms. Biel) is playing an American suffragette who married into a stuffy upper-crust English family and won't be cowed by tradition. The one WITHOUT the bloomers is just trying to be as free-spirited as she thinks her brother's new bride is -- obviously, in her enthusiasm, she crossed the line bit time...
From a strictly choreographic standpoint: yeah, it's as unskilled as 80% of what gets posted on YouTube. But these AREN'T pro dancers, in real life or in the plot of the movie, and that's the point.
Guys Its about the craft of real dancing . Not old school. Its about doing it properly. The Cancan is a proper rite, not merely an exercise in cheesy skirt lifting. Its all so lame and conceited. Pass. JV

Ummm...if you pay attention to the clip, Jessie's dance partner ISN'T. :>
So that kinda makes up for it.
Plus, when was the last time a real live Hollywood starlet "kicked it old school?" (No, Nicole in MOULIN ROUGE doesn't count!)
Le Flatline

Le Flatline, the film apologist. :>
