LCCB Bastille Day

A subset of Le Cancan Bijou (Monika Lenk, Keegan Tyler and Cindy Lu) performed at a Bastille Day function at Kenwood, near San Francisco.  See some photos at:

The Merry Widow 1952

I've complained before about how the cancan in the 1952 film version of The Merry Widow was botched, largely by the sans skirts costume selection - see the photo above.

One very small consolation from the film is the banister scene in the film clip below, which provides a better "cancan" than the Maxim's girls.

The video is posted at:

The lobby card is from a Lana Turner fanpage on Facebook:

Bastille Day Video

This is the best video, so far, of the current limited crop of Bastille Day videos.  There's some hand shake - mine might shake too - but the costumes are just right for a classic look fan.  Unfortunately, I do not know who the dance troupe is or where they were performing.  You can see the original posted in 1080p by krisczer at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiCn6YOJIno

Another video is of Karen Peled's troupe in New York to go with Flatline's fine photo collection:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkRC_l69Tl8

A careful observer may observe someone familiar in the audience.

Hopefully, more videos will come available over the next week.  Please post if you find something of interest.

In honor of Bastille Day

Even though this is not a Bastille Day performance, the dancers seem to be showing Le Tricolore, so it is appropriate enough.

These actually are from a national day and fireworks festival in Miaoli (?), China.  The performers are Russian.

These very nice images and the rest of the set can be found at the Facebook site of 影像花園:

I'll keep my eyes open for more Bastille Day photos on the web, and I hope other members will post those that they took or found.

CanCan Pizza

From a cancan photo contest sponsored by Lithuania's CanCan Pizza.   A variation on the gimmick used by other establishments with cancan in their name or the name of their promotion - think ShopRite's can can sale.

There are a number of other contest entries that you can see at CanCan Pizza's Facebook page:

A study in four photos of Valencienne as she "gets down" at Maxim's in The Merry Widow.  This is from a production in Reggio di Calabria, Italy.  The opera company is not identified.   Ms. Marcu, who is from Romania, is a very beautiful and talented woman as you can see by looking at her Facebook page:

Two very attractive dancers perform at Malom Központ (mill center), a Hungarian shopping mall and entertainment center.  I'm not able to identify the dance troupe unless perhaps it is named "Diva". See the rest of this set of photos at:
