Okley Derivative

Another adaptation of the famous Okley poster for the Moulin Rouge.  Nothing seems to hold a candle to the original, which can be seen in the prior posts below.

Milo Manara - Cancan Artwork

Oh, the things you find when you do images searches on Twitter... 😍

Milo Manara is an Italian comic book writer/illustrator whose work, as per Wikipedia, "revolve around elegant, beautiful women caught up in unlikely and fantastical erotic scenarios." (Which is a polite way of saying that most of his artistic output is GROTESQUELY "not safe for work.") But his artistic style IS immediately recognizable - and yeah, I'm a fan.

Which is why this particular piece of art leapt off the computer screen. Can't offer any context, since a Google Image search produced no other examples of this.

Enjoy...

Adéla ještě nevečeřela (Adele Hasn't Had Her Dinner Yet) 1977

And now for something COMPLETELY different:

"ADÉLA JEŠTĚ NEVEČEŘELA" (Adele Hasn't Had Her Dinner Yet) is a Czechoslovakian adventure/comedy from 1977, in which turn-of-the-century private detective Nick Carter gets embroiled in a mystery involving...a carnivorous plant (the eponymous Adele). It's a high-camp, gadget-laden period piece that gene-splices THE ASSASSINATION BUREAU, Adam West-era BATMAN, and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS.

In one scene, Carter's investigation leads him to a Prague music hall, where the seductive Karin (Olga Schoberová) is performing in a cat mask and costume (with a line of cancan dancers behind her), when she's not trying to seduce Carter.

As you can see, the bloomer-based costumes are probably more historically accurate than many other films set in this period.

A 1080p copy of the film can be seen on YouTube (action beginning around 53:43):

The movie's also available on Amazon Prime Video.

Diamond Tooth Gertie's Is Open for Business!

...and business is looking better than ever!

(Personal anecdote: when I was but a wee lad, I accidentally discovered that travel brochures from the Yukon often included pictures of the DTG dancers - which I would take home, cut out the relevant images, and save...)
