Spolek Elegantnich Dam

The Czech troupe, Spolek Elegantnich Dam, which wears costumes very pleasing to purists, rarely posts accessible photos, but has favored us with a new extended set at their site at rajce.idnes.cz.  Unfortunately, the performance was in a low light venue, which affects the quality of the photos.

The Merry Widow - The Metropolitan Opera - 2015

I was able to see the HD telecast last night, and it was very good. I think that showing may be the last US encore, but I think it may still be shown again elsewhere.  If it is ever available again, my advice is: don't miss it.  The Met does release DVDs some time after the performances are concluded.  Perhaps this one will be selected for release or perhaps PBS will air it.

The photos are screen captures for the dress rehearsal video available on You Tube (also shown above), so they are not as crisp as I would like them to be, but they give an idea of what the performance looks like.  The cancan scenes in the full performance are much longer than the clip above.

Kelli O'Hara in the Valencienne role, shown above, does a great job, although her participation in the cancan, as a drunken Valencienne, is played for laughs, and her actual dancing is limited.
