Lighting

Fancy lighting effects rarely do much to enhance a cancan performance.  Here is an exception that suggests a limelight effect.  I no longer have a link to the  source.

Scarline's at Châtillon sur Seine

The Les Scarline's troupe put on a cabaret show for a senior's day celebration in Châtillon sur Seine, France that included this cancan.

Betty Crispy - Effeuillage New Burlesque

Some nice photos from the site of Betty Crispy, a French burlesque performer whose sites are definitely worth visiting.

Ms Crispy is a dancer who has discovered a new career in burlesque.  I can't tell that she appears in any of the cancan photos, but you can judge for yourself if you visit her sites.  I don't know the name of the group portrayed.

La Quadrilla - Then and Now

La Rigolbochomanie

An early expression of the cancan.  The dancers are trying to imitate Rigolboche, one of the early stars of the cancan, whose dancing during the Second Empire inspired a "Rigolbochmania" in Paris at the time. The artist is Charles Vernier.  The original print is offered at the French Proantic site:
