Канкан

Not bad for a Russian split skirt routine.  Cancan at 3:10, but the Russsian Navy isn't half bad either.  I've seen photos of the troupe before, but can't recall the name.  If I remember or can find the photo, I'll supplememt this.  (Got the photo, but not the name - see above)

Split Skirt Cancan

Here's one good quality video for all you split skirt lovers:

Balet Studio Giuliana, French Cancan.

I'ved also made an album SPLIT SKIRT CANCAN

Something a Little Diffferent

I've always thought that costumiers and choregraphers of split skirt cancans didn't quite grasp the concept of the dance, but occasionally one finds an example that deserves special recognition.

The costumes here are definitely non-traditional, even for a split skirt performance, but they are really eye-catching and the dancers fill them out very nicely.

The troupe, which is from Ukraine, is unnamed but performed at the Shakhtar Plaza Night Club in Donetsk.

The orignal video in 720p can be seen at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8C8ZR-_-Oo

I tried to track the group down, but the best I could find was the above photo at the site of Art Mafia, an agency through which they can be booked:

Yandex.ru (Barbebleu)

Thanks go to Scott for pointing out the Russian search engines. I tried the first one (yandex.ru) and had a good bit of success searching using the Cyrillic for cancan, which looks something like, "kah-kah".

Here are the fruits of that endeavor. Cancanneith should be pleased with the results - split skirts predominate. I have to say that personally I am in Max's camp on the split skirt issue, but the truth is I like them all.

Some of these are slow loading. Also, there are some duplicates even among the links below because some of the dance groups' pictures show up on more than one site.

Russian Cancan

A rather spectacular Russian style, split-skirt cancan performed by an unidentified trio who are wearing some very interesting costumes that should appeal to miminalists.  If anyone can identify them, please do.  The video comes from the VK site of Assol Love Eliseeva:

шоу-балет Las Chicas

Lviv's Las Chicas show the charms of baggy bloomers in their split-skirt cancan routine. Nice clear video.

Impuls 1

At the other end of the costuming spectrum (traditional non-split skirt, modest white bloomers, tights not stockings) comes this video which is also from the VK site of Assol Love Eliseeva.  These dancers are identified as being from "Impuls".  See the original at:

There are a number of Russian troupes going under the name Impuls, and I am not sure which one is portrayed in this video.  I'll try to feature the various Impulses in upcoming posts.

Gina Lollobrigida - La Donna più bella del Mondo (1955)

A clip from the film La Donna più bella del Mondo (1955) (aka Beautiful, but Dangerous) has resurfaced courtesy of Michael Fox at You Tube.  Gina Lollobrigida does a sort of split skirt cancan.  Watch it not for the dancing per se but to see the very sexy Lollo waving her skirts and showing off some relatively hi-cut panties (considering the time period).
