The Merry Widow - The Metropolitan Opera - 2015

I was able to see the HD telecast last night, and it was very good. I think that showing may be the last US encore, but I think it may still be shown again elsewhere.  If it is ever available again, my advice is: don't miss it.  The Met does release DVDs some time after the performances are concluded.  Perhaps this one will be selected for release or perhaps PBS will air it.

The photos are screen captures for the dress rehearsal video available on You Tube (also shown above), so they are not as crisp as I would like them to be, but they give an idea of what the performance looks like.  The cancan scenes in the full performance are much longer than the clip above.

Kelli O'Hara in the Valencienne role, shown above, does a great job, although her participation in the cancan, as a drunken Valencienne, is played for laughs, and her actual dancing is limited.

The Merry Widow - The Met

Someone has posted an HD video of the Met's Merry Widow.  This is the full operetta in two parts.  It is a must-see, and one that will likely disappear quickly.  Look now.

Replay - The Merry Widow MET 2015

For anyone who wants a refresher or a download, here is the 2015 Met production of The Merry Widow in reasonably high quality.   I'm not sure how long this will remain posted at You Tube.

Die lustige Witwe (1962)

Several full-length Merry Widows have been posted at You Tube.  This German movie from 1962 isn't the "The Merry Widow", but it does have a brief classically costumed cancan, wrapped around Peter Alexander hamming it up.  The cancan starts around 33:00.

A complete version of the real thing by the Met with Beverly Sills has been posted by Logan D at:

The Merry Widow at the Met

A preview of what is in store with the Metropolitan Opera's production of The Merry Widow.

This will be shown in movie theaters in the US and Canada.  David Price, who found the above video, advises that it is also being shown in the UK (and perhaps elsewhere).

The Merry Widow (Metropolitan Opera, 2015)

A 720p version of the entire Merry Widow by the Met.  I don't know how long this will stay up, so you might want to look and/or download it now.
