Two by Alice Huertas

These are two uncommonly seen illustrations by Alice Huertas, a prolific artist who made quite a number of very nice, idealized renderings of the mid-20th Century cancan. These are captioned, "Casino de Paris" and "Folies Bergere", and perhaps the costuming of the dancers follows what was then on offer at those two establishments.

For some additional Alice Huertas works, click on the label, "Alice Huertas", at the bottom of this post and check the Photo Albums here (look for the Illustrations page). You may also wish to go to:

Alice Huertas

Four cancan dancers from the artist, Alice Huertas, one of the best cancan illustrators of the mid-20th Century. Some of her work, like these, found their way on to post cards and others can be found as full-sized prints.

These are from EBay auctions, which can be seen at:

Alice Huertas Retrospective 2

We are all familiar with the art of Alice Huertas, who specialized in cancan illustrations. I've always been a big fan of her work. A number of her artworks found their way into prints that are commonly seen here and elsewhere. She also drew or painted originals that differ from the prints and that are not commonly seen. Over the two weeks or so I'll post some of the latter artworks I have come across.

This one is from:

https://www.ebth.com/items/10002987-alice-huertas-ink-and-watercolor-painting-of-moulin-rouge-dancer-paris

I was curious about the artist, but I haven't been able to find a biographical sketch anywhere. I think the artworks date mostly from the 1950s.

Alice Huertas, that is.

This especially nice print from a drawing/watercolor is by Catherine-Marche.

It is for sale at the French craft site "a little Market" (like Etsy):

Alice Huertas Album

I've created an album of Alice Huertas artwork, including those posted as part of the "Alice Huertas Retrospective" and other posts at Club CCD and at my Tumblr site. About 90 in all, with some duplicates.

If I discover some new ones, Ill try to add them.

It will give us a handy place to look if we want an "Alice fix" or when we want to find one of her pieces.
