German TV poll

I saw a programme on German TV recently showing the top 50 results of a poll in which viewers had been asked to vote for their most loved dance or dance form. The cancan came a respectable 14th. The top three, in case you're interested, were the cha-cha-cha, the tango and the Viennese waltz.

Port Aventura - Nice video, but download issues

Here is a very nice new YouTube video from Port Aventura with red and black costumes instead of the green and black ones we've seen before.  Nice camera work and plenty of close-ups.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adS-DvXB_RA

However, the technique I have been using to download and save the .flv file doesn't sem to be working.  I don't see any large files in my Temporary Internet Files for the YouTube videos.

Would someone else give this a try and report their success or failure?

Thanks,  Barbebleu

Britain's Got Talent

Have any of our UK members seen this performance by the dance group Impact before?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gfl8gQuAkX8&mode=related&search=

It looks like a UK television show that may have been the inspiration for the TV show here called, "American Idol", which has had a pretty big audience and features as one of the judges the same Simon Cowell who appears in this spot.

I ask because if the original show had Impact's full performance and not just these fragments, it would be a very nice video.  Did anyone record it?

myspacetv.com - Wide World of the Cancan

Wide World of the Cancan (as realized by MySpace.com)

I came across a new (to me, at least) repository of cancan videos - myspacetv.com.

Some of these are quite nice, at least by YouTube standards. And, as the title suggests, there is quite a range of sources and types of performances.

Let me ask up front - can anyone figure out how to save copies of these videos? The technique we use on YouTube doesn't seem to work here. I tried a couple of on-line sites that purport to allow you to download the MySpace videos, but they didn't work. There are several of these I would like to keep for posterity, and you may as well. So, if you can figure out a way to capture these, please share it.

To watch these you are probably going to have to log in to MySpace.

Bastille Day NYC 2007 - Twice the Fun!

Seems my triumphant return to Wild West City was just the tip of the iceberg...

As promised/threatened, I spent the better part of last weekend in Manhattan, scoping out the various Bastille Day festivities: downtown Saturday at Les Halles, and then Sunday at the big French Institute/Alliance Francaise street fair on East 60th Street.  And unlike 2006, where the "cancan girls" were little more than glorified Rockettes, costume-wise, both fetes this year featured the Karen Peled Dancers, who brought a far more authentic look to their costumes and choreography.  They were also very glad that someone with a professional camera was out front capturing their act, as well as "borrowing" them in between sets for some posed pics.

(They also asked that any "revealing" shots not be included in public galleries.  Mind you, there was nothing in their routine, in my humble opinion, that would have strained the boundries of a PG rating, but being the gentleman that I am -- and eager to stay in their good graces and hopefully work with them again! -- I quickly agreed.  Thus any "royal flashes" I captured will not see the light of day... )

Anyway, here are the galleries:

Les Halles (Saturday)

French Institute (Sunday)

And, as it turned out, there was stuff going on at the Chelsea Market that I really have to scope out next year!  (The beginning of the gallery has some alternate Les Halles shots...)

Viva la France!
