Camping French Style

The French seem to have a tradition of camping en masse and having amateur talent shows for entertainment.  Here Charlene and friends do a pretty good amateur skit with a royal flash/double swat at the end.  Go to the Instagram link for a better view.  Download it for an even better one.

Some unusual costuming,  At first glance the girls appear to be wearing red ruffled bloomers, but that impression is dispelled when they execute a royal flash.  The purpose becomes clearer later when they lose the cancan skirts.

An excerpt from the Gala concert for the anniversary of the Musical Comedy Theater Online broadcast (Russian).

This features a class A royal flash (see the screenshot above) as well as some very nice classic costumes.  The production is marred by the omnipresent male dancers, but enjoy the girls on those occasions when they take precedence.

Light the Torch - Pochodeň Unhošť 2017

The ladies of the Pochoden (Torch) social club of Unhošť in the Czech Republic do a creditable amateur cancan. At the end, the ladies spell things out for us.  I'm not sure what "solet" means.  The wayward "H" dancer seems to have lost her way in the royal flash line-up, but reappears in the penultimate photo to redeem herself.

Mystere au Moulin Rouge - An Undiscovered GEM

Some background: not too long ago, Barbebleu found a trailer for a French film called "Mystere au Moulin Rouge" with some cancan footage that looked...intriguing. After some digging about, I (ahem) "acquired" a medium resolution copy (with, of all things, Russian subtitles!).

Folks, this is a FIND.

For starters, there are fifteen (count 'em!) cancan scenes, either a token appearance or a full-blown routine. The dancers' outfits are pretty accurate, historically, with a nice variety of styles.  The choreography is VERY energetic, and the dancers all look like they're having a blast flouting that old Victorian morality their cousins across the Channel were known for...

(They've got a ginger cancaneuse! I think I'm in love.)

The "mystery," as it were, is that a young lady's older sister went off to Paris to find fame at the old MR, and then mysteriously vanished.  In a flashback, we see the elder sibling demonstrate her dance moves...

...as well as deliver a royal flash to their disapproving mum.

So, discounting the spoken French and written Cyrillic, I did figure out that Kid Sister goes to Paree to find her sib, and rationalizes "Hey, I know what...I'll go undercover as a cancan dancer!"

...I am not making this up.

Early on, we meet this salty chanteuse...

...who takes it upon herself to school Our Heroine in the flexibility needed for a proper cancan.

Still, she barely passes her audition with the stern but handsome owner, until he steps in to adjust her pose.

Yeah, yeah, story schmorry.  Here's some more dance pics.

(Did I mention my love of ginger cancaneuses? It bears repeating.)

Oh, and at the end of the day, Our Heroine does not embarrass herself on the dance floor.

Amazon France has the film in letterboxed DVD format; no idea if a Blu-Ray version will ever appear.  But yes, by all means seek this one out by hook or by crook!
